Animal Place’s Vegan Republic first opened about five years ago as Republic of V under different ownership. A year later, Animal Place bought the store, renamed it Animal Place’s Vegan Republic, and now 100% of the profits go to support the animals at the sanctuary.
Vegan Republic carries a variety of vegan goods. There is nearly a whole wall of refrigerators full of vegan cheeses, faux meats, condiments, plant milks, creamer and more—including the newly released Just Egg.
If you’re not into the motherless meats and dairy-free cheeses, VR also carries all sorts of dry goods, like quinoa, ground flax seeds, chia seeds, along with cookies, cereals, bullion and the like. There is also a book section, message t-shirts, pendants, stickers, wallets, and more. The only things VR doesn’t carry is items like fresh produce, bread, canned beans or tomatoes—i.e. stuff you can easily find at any generic grocery store. Basically, everything at VR is either a specialty vegan item, or a hard-to-find accidentally vegan item.
My husband and I stop by VR nearly once a week; usually to grab some Beyond Meat or Violife, but sometimes it’s just for inspiration and/or ideas. I call this little little store “my vegan happy place.”
There is also a world map on the wall with pins from all the places visitors are from. So if you are traveling through the area (or even just local, like me) stop in and say hello. And then leave with your reusable bag full of vegan goodness!
